In the ancient Quechua language of the Incas, Machu Picchu stands for "old peak," which only scratches the surface of this jewel of Inca architecture. Lying at the heart of a landscape of imposing peaks covered with luxuriant vegetation, Machu Picchu was built sometime in the last third of the 15th century, its people's culture was the final phase of six thousand years of Peruvian civilization.

Machu PicchuAlthough the details of its past may never be clarified, it is believed that its main functions were those of religious activities dedicated to the gods upon whom its inhabitants believed their existence depended: The God of Water and Mother Earth, or Pachamama.

Our Machu Picchu Sanctuary package has been carefully designed for travelers whishing to explore Cusco, the first city founded by Spaniards in South America (1535), the Sacred Valley with impresive Inca traces and Machu Picchu. We will access the "Lost City" via train from Ollantaytambo.
