When Permits for the Classic Inca Trail are sold out, the Lares trek becomes a great alternative. During the Lares trek you will be able to observe a few native communities, a huge variety of flora and fauna, and the amazing ruins of Machu Picchu.
This adventure includes two nights of acclimatization in Cusco before the Trek, the complete Lares Trek to Machu Picchu, an overnight by Machu Picchu in the town of Aguas Calientes and back to Cusco for a last night.
Since the Lares trek will take you to Ollantaytambo town, you will be able to visit the beautiful Ruins of the town before taking the train that will take you to Aguas Calientes.
In order to complete the Lares Trek, you need to have a reasonable level of fitness, age shouldn't be a barrier. The most important thing is to be well acclimatized to the altitude. The maximum height above sea level along the Lares Trek is is 4400 m (14436 ft), that is why we include 2 days in Cusco before the trek. This period is ideal for visiting the city of Cusco, the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman and the beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Day 1: CUSCO
Assistance at your arrival to Velazco Astete Airport (CUZ) and transfer to your Hotel after a quick tour of the beautiful Plaza De Armas. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 2: CUSCO (B)
Today you are free to relax, acclimatize to the altitude (3309masl/10856 ft) and get ready for next day's Salkantay Trek. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 3: CUSCO / LARES / QUISHUARANI (B)(L)(D)
Early in the morning our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco in order to take a bus towards the town of Lares, located 49Km away from Cusco. Once in Lares, you will be able to enjoy the thermal waters and enjoy an early lunch. After an early lunch, you will start your journey by hiking to your first camp located near the native Community of Quishuarani. You will hike for about eight hours before you reach your camp.
Day 4: QUISHUARANI / CANCHA CANCHA (B)(L)(D)
After an early breakfast, we will start this day trekking towards the highest pass called 'Pachacutec pass' at 4.458 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.). On the way to this pass, you will be able to observe an amazing small lake where the waterfall of Pausi delivers its water.ALos, you will be able to see astonishing views of the peaks of Pitusiray (5750 m.a.s.l.) and Chicon (5500 m.a.s.l.). This trek will also let experience the real native Peruvian life. In our second camp, Cancha Cancha, will be provided.
Day 5: CANCHA CANCHA / HUARAN / OLLANTAYTAMBO / AGUAS CALIENTES (B)(L)(D)
After a delicious breakfast, we'll start the easiest day of our journey hiking. The road will take us to the town of Huaran. On our way to Huaran, we will enjoy the landscape, the changes in nature, and the flora and fauna of the area (mainly birds). In Huaran, we will eat lunch and then we will start our hike towards Ollantaytambo. If we have time, you may enjoy the famous ruins of Ollantaytambo (Tickets not included in the package). In Ollantaytambo, we will eat dinner and then we will take a train to Aguas Calientes. In this town, you will spend the night at the hostel or hotel of your choice (included on the package).
Day 6: AGUAS CALIENTES / MACHUPICCHU / CUSCO (B)
Today, a bus will take you to Machu Picchu early in the morning. In Machu Picchu, you will have a guided tour for about two hours and after that you will be free to explore the Citadel and take pictures. At 4:20p.m., you will be taking a train to Ollantaytambo and from there, a bus will drive you to your hotel in Cusco.
Day 07: CUSCO (B)
Morning transfer to the airport for the return flight to Lima. This marks the end of our services. Trip extensions to other regions or extra days in Lima or Cusco can be arranged.

Note: Horses will carry the heavy gear; you will hike carrying only your personal pack, sleeping bag and pad.
If you are considering bringing some photography equipment or other heavy accessories, or just simply don't want to carry anything, please request an additional horse (US$ 95) to carry your personal belongings, this way you will freely enjoy the hike. (This is highly recommended if you have never hiked over 10000 feet). Cooks handle all the kitchen chores.
